Colin MacCabe
Colin Myles Joseph MacCabe (born 9 February 1949) is a British academic, writer and film producer. He is currently distinguished professor of English and film at the University of Pittsburgh.〔(Debrett's ) Retrieved 13 May 2012.〕
==Career==
MacCabe was educated at St Benedict's School and Trinity College, Cambridge where he took his first degree and doctorate. From 1974-76 he was a research fellow at Emmanuel College, Cambridge and then until 1981 a university assistant lecturer in English and fellow of King's College, Cambridge. 〔 He came to public prominence in 1981 when he was denied tenure, apparently in consequence of his position at the centre of a much publicised dispute within the faculty of English concerning the teaching of structuralism.〔''Newsweek'', 16 February (1981), p. 95; see also Philip Lewis, "The Post-Structualist Condition," ''Diacritics'' 12:1 (1982): 2–24, p. 2.〕
After leaving Cambridge he held the position of professor of English at the universities of Strathclyde (1981-85) and Exeter (1998-2006), and was visiting professor at Birkbeck, University of London (1992-2006). Since 1986 he has been professor of English at the University of Pittsburgh.〔
Between 1985 and 1998 MacCabe worked for the British Film Institute first as Head of Production and then as Head of Research and Education.〔
